About The Montell Brief

Politics Without the Party Script.

The Montell Brief is an independent political commentary publication built for people who want to understand politics without needing a political science degree first.

We cover Florida politics, government, elections, public policy, and major national stories with credible sourcing, clear explanations, and independent analysis.

Our approach is simple:

We explain before we analyze.

If we mention redistricting, polling, committee votes, congressional districts, or some political term everybody on TV assumes you already understand, we’re going to break it down.

We don’t dumb politics down.

We break it down.

How We Cover Politics

The Montell Brief does not exist to defend Democrats or Republicans, and being moderate does not mean forcing every issue into the middle.

Sometimes Democrats have the stronger argument. Sometimes Republicans do. Sometimes both sides deserve criticism.

Our job is to explain what happened, what the facts show, why it matters, and where we land — even when the answer does not fit neatly into a party script.

About Marcus Montell

Marcus Montell is a South Florida-based political writer and commentator and the founder of The Montell Brief.

A U.S. Army veteran with a background in political science and public service, Marcus writes about politics with a particular interest in Florida government, elections, leadership, political institutions, and the issues affecting everyday communities.

He created The Montell Brief to make political coverage more understandable, more useful, and a little less disconnected from the people government is supposed to serve.
